January 24, 2004 Conference for Community Preservation Committees

You are cordially invited to attend a free conference hosted by the statewide Community Preservation Coalition for Community Preservation Committees in the northern 495 region (from Dracut to Wayland). The conference is intended to provide municipal governments with tools and strategies for implementing the Community Preservation Act (CPA).

Morning Session: Introductory Remarks and CPC Discussion

A continental breakfast will be served starting at 8:30 AM. The speaking program will begin at 9:00 AM with a welcome by Senator Pam Resor followed by introductory remarks by Dorrie Pizzella, Executive Director of the Community Preservation Coalition, and an overview of CPA implementation statewide.

Following the introductory program there will be an open discussion in which members of each of the Community Preservation Committees will share their respective experiences in implementing the Act. This session will include significant time for questions and answers and sharing of ideas and best practices.

Afternoon Session: The CPA and Affordable Housing

Following lunch (provided), Gene Clerkin, an expert on housing development and a former member of the Bedford CPC, will join us to talk about strategies for using CPA funds on affordable housing. There will be ample time for questions and discussion.

Directions to Acton Town Hall

From the East: take Route 2 West around the Concord Rotary and follow it for another 2.6 miles, getting off on exit 42 “Route 27 Acton – Maynard” and turn right (north) at the top of the ramp.  Continue as below

From the West: take Route 2 East under Route 495 and proceed 3.7 miles, get off at exit 42 “Route 27 Acton – Maynard” Turn left (north) at the top of the ramp.  Continue as below

From North and South: take Route 495 to exit 29A “Route 2 Boston” follow Route 2 for 3.7 miles, get off on exit 42 “Route 27 Acton – Maynard” .  Turn left (north) at the top of the ramp, continue as below

Follow Route 27 (Main Street) 0.9 miles.  As you enter Acton Center you will see a tall granite monument on the Town Common.  Turn left opposite the monument onto Woodbury Lane.  Park at the rear of the Town Hall / Memorial Library parking lot. 

The Community Preservation Coalition (CPC) is an alliance of open space, affordable housing, and preservation organizations that works with municipalities to help them understand, adopt, and implement the CPA. Steering Committee members include: the Citizens Housing and Planning Association (CHAPA); Preservation Massachusetts; the Massachusetts Affordable Housing Alliance (MAHA); the Massachusetts Audubon Society; the National Trust for Historic Preservation; and the Trust for Public Land (TPL).
