Once a community adopts the CPA, they usually begin collecting the CPA surcharge soon thereafter. For communities who adopt it in the spring, they can start at the beginning of the next fiscal year on July 1. For those who adopt it in the fall, the first collection is often with the tax bill that is due in January. Each Sept. 15, all those communities that have collected funds in the previous fiscal year ended June 30 certify to the Dept. of Revenue how much they collected. Then a month later, on Oct 15, the matching funds are paid out, based on the Sept. 15 certification. This Oct 15, the first round of state matching funds will be distributed, totalling $17.85 million. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
