Voters in Freetown Send CPA to the Ballot

June 8, 2011: Without much debate, voters in Freetown at Monday night's town meeting elected to send CPA to the ballot. The question will appear at next spring's town election (to be held on June 4, 2012).

Freetown is looking to adopt CPA at a 1 percent surcharge level, and with all three available exemptions (moderate income residents, seniors and businesses will be exempt from the surcharge, as will the first $100,000 of residental property value for all town residents). This would mean a tax increase of approximately $22 for the average homeowner with a home assessed at $312,000.
