Strong Show of Support During CPA Bill Hearing

June 10, 2015: The Joint Committee on Revenue reviewed testimony supporting An Act to Sustain Community Preservation Revenue (H.2587/S.1459) during their Tuesday hearing. The Committee, chaired by Senator Michael Rodrigues and Representative Jay Kaufman, heard two panels of oral testimony comprised of several partner organizations, as well as a community representative from Needham. Committee members were presented with a binder filled with over 100 letters from CPA communities and additional testimony from statewide organizations.

Well over 100 pieces of written testimony were presented to the Joint Committee on Revenue in favor of H.2587/S.1459 The Coalition organized efforts on behalf of CPA communities for the hearing. Testimony began with Stuart Saginor, Executive Director of the Coalition, providing a general overview of CPA and the legislation. Stuart was followed by Charlie Ticotsky, Government Affairs Specialist for the Metropolitan Area Planning Council who discussed the municipal view and local aide benefits of CPA. David Bryant, Director of Advocacy for the Massachusetts Association of Community Development Corporations shared information about CPA-funded affordable housing options. Patty Carey, Director of Park and Recreation for the Town of Needham talked about the benefits of CPA in developing recreation projects. Jen Ryan, Director of Policy for the Trustees of Reservations spoke to the open space and historic preservation benefits of CPA.

We would like to thank or legislative sponsors, Senator Cynthia Stone Creem (S.1459) and Stephen Kulik (H.2587), Representative Sarah Peake who testified on behalf of her constituents, and all of the legislators who submitted written testimony in favor of the bill.
