10 Minute Walk Campaign - Creating Park Accesibility for All

10 Minute Walk CampaignOct. 10, 2017: One in three Americans does not currently have a park or green space within a 10-minute walk of home. And even those who do may find those spaces uninviting if their parks are underfunded or haven’t reached their full potential.

One of the Coalition founding organizations, The Trust For Public Land, in partnership with the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) and Urban Land Institute (ULI), has launched their 10 Minute Walk Campaign today, marking a turning point in creating great parks for all.

More than 130 mayors from cities across the country, including several in Massachusetts, have signed on to the Campaign in support of the idea that everyone, no matter which city or town they live in, should have a park or public green space within a 10-minute walk of home. Visit www.10minutewalk.org for a look at how the Trust for Public Land is working towards making this campaign a reality.

In Massachusetts, the Community Preservation Act will be an essential tool for accomplishing this campaign's goal, and CPA has already played an enormous role in creating park accessibility in the 172 cities and towns that have adopted it. Since 2001, CPA has allowed communities across the state protect over 27,000 acres of land for open space and recreation, and since 2012, over 1,700 recreation projects have been funded through the program.
