Canton and Freetown to Vote on CPA Adoption in April

Mar. 3, 2012: The Community Preservation Act (CPA) is on the ballot and coming up for early April votes in two communities: Freetown on April 2nd and Canton on April 3rd.   Both communities have active CPA campaigns, with local residents working hard to provide information on CPA to fellow community members and asking for their support for the ballot measure. Both Freetown and Canton are voting on adopting CPA with a 1% surcharge on local property taxes, with exemptions for the first $100,000 of residential property value and for low income families and low and moderate income seniors. Freetown would also exempt all commercial and industrial properties from the CPA surcharge. If CPA is adopted by both communities, they would be the 149th and 150th communities in the state to accept the Act.
