CPA Adoption Update: East Bridgewater and Palmer on the Ballot

East Bridgewater and Palmer Put CPA on the BallotSept. 9, 2016: This week, two final communities have succeeded in placing the question of CPA adoption on their November ballots. The towns of Palmer and East Bridgewater will now join the fourteen other municipalities that are voting on CPA adoption later this year.

On Tuesday evening, the Town Council in Palmer voted in favor of including CPA adoption on the November ballot. Voters in the town will decide on adopting a 1.5% CPA surcharge with the exemption of the first $100,000 of residential property value. Palmer would raise approximately $126,000 in local CPA revenues annually for recreation, historic preservation, affordable housing and open space projects.

Meanwhile, local advocates in East Bridgewater received confirmation on Wednesday that they had succeeded in gathering the required signatures from 5 percent of their community's registered voters. Voters will decide on adopting a 1.5% CPA surcharge with the exemption of the first $100,000 of residential property value as well as low income and low and moderate income senior homeowners. East Bridgewater would raise approximately $276,000 annually in local CPA revenues.

Now that the official deadline for including new ballot measures has passed, we can confirm that there will be a total of sixteen cities and towns across the state that will be voting on CPA adoption in November. This is the highest number of communities that have voted on a single election day in the last decade. We will continue to report on any news regarding the elections in the upcoming months.
