CPA Adoption Update: Oxford On The Ballot

Oxford to Vote on CPAOct. 22, 2015: The town of Oxford in Worcester County became the fifth community to advance CPA to the ballot this year after debate at the town meeting held on Wednesday, October 21st. Oxford joins Malden, Medford, and Woburn, who will vote on November 3, 2015, along with Abington, who will vote in 2016.

In Oxford, voters will decide on adopting a 1.5% CPA surcharge for their community, with exemptions for the first $100,000 of residential property value, low to moderate income families, and moderate income seniors. With a 1.5% CPA surcharge and the aforementioned exemptions, Oxford would raise approximately $200,000 in local CPA revenues annually for recreation, historic preservation, affordable housing and open space projects. Adopting CPA will also make the town eligible to receive annual distributions of funds from the statewide Community Preservation Trust Fund, monies that are available only to communities that have adopted the Act. The annual cost to the average Oxford homeowner would be about $27.

If Oxford does adopt the CPA, the funds could address a number of local needs including repairs to the clock tower at Memorial Hall, improving recreational fields and amenities, improving Carbuncle Park, and addressing housing needs.
