CPA Adoption Update: Shirley Places CPA Adoption on 2023 Ballot

Town of Shirley Places CPA on Spring BallotOnly a few weeks after several stunning Election Day victories for new CPA communities, we already have our first CPA election scheduled for 2023 - at their Town Meeting last night, residents in Shirley voted by a wide margin to place the question of CPA adoption on their spring ballot.

Voters in Shirley will now decide whether or not to adopt a 1% CPA surcharge for their community with exemptions for the first $100,000 of residential property, the first $100,000 of commercial property, and for low income and low & moderate income senior homeowners. Should the town adopt CPA, they are expected to raise approximately $84,000 in local CPA revenues annually for outdoor recreation, historic preservation, affordable housing, and open space projects. Adopting CPA would also make the town eligible to receive annual distributions of funds from the statewide Community Preservation Trust Fund, monies that are available only to communities that have adopted the Act.

Shirley residents will be voting on CPA adoption during their spring election scheduled for Tuesday, May 2nd. Next year may be a relatively quiet year for CPA adoption efforts with no state or federal election scheduled for the fall, but it's still possible for more communities to consider CPA campaigns in 2023. Keep an eye on our CPA elections page for further updates.
