CPA Loses Two Friends

Jan. 9, 2012: Alexandra Dawson of Hadley, and Dick Upjohn of Southborough, both beloved members of the CPA community and longtime members of their local Community Preservation Committees, passed away during the first week of January.

Mass Audubon, in their weekly Beacon Hill Roundup, wrote that "the environmental community lost a great advocate and friend this week with the passing of Alexandra Dawson, 80. Alexandra was an attorney, teacher and award-winning environmentalist known throughout the state for her dedication to ecological protection and her extensive knowledge of environmental law."

Andrew Mills, Chair of the Southborough CPC, remembers Dick Upjohn: "Dick has been on the Southborough CPC from day one, and I can't recall him ever missing a meeting. He was a great advocate for land conservation and historical preservation. He will be greatly missed by all in Southborough."

The Coalition honors the memories of Alexandra and Dick, and is grateful for their many contributions of conservation and preservation in their communities and in the Commonwealth as a whole. We join their families, friends, and community members in mourning their passing, and extend our deepest condolences to all who knew and loved them.
