Danvers & Shirley Voting on CPA Adoption on May 2nd

Danvers CPA Campaign SignIn just a few short weeks, two communities will be weighing in on CPA adoption: the towns of Danvers and Shirley will both have CPA as a ballot question during their spring elections on Tuesday, May 2nd.

The local advocates in each of these towns has been working hard to spread the word about the upcoming election, as well as educate neighbors about the benefits of CPA adoption - and as it so happens, they are each using similar strategies! Both campaigns are hitting all the right notes for a successful ballot campaign, including:

  • Holding signs and meeting with neighbors (see the photos below!)
  • Danvers and Shirley have each created a Facebook campaign page to post updates and interact with local voters.
  • Shirley has created a campaign website with helpful FAQ's, project examples, and other helpful information.
  • Danvers is sending out a postcard mailing to local voters urging them to "Vote Yes" on CPA

This is the second time that Danvers has placed the question of CPA adoption on the ballot after an unsuccessful attempt in 2016. Voters will now be deciding whether to adopt a 1% surcharge with no exemptions, which would allow the town to raise approximately $875,000 in local revenue each year for community preservation initiatives.

Shirley has also voted on CPA once before, but not since the very beginning of the CPA program back in 2001. Now the town will be deciding on a 1% CPA surcharge with exemptions for low-income and low-to-moderate-income seniors, as well as the first $100,000 of both residential and commercial property value. Should CPA pass, the town is expected to generate approximately $84,000 annually from the local CPA surcharge.

There's plenty of excitement around CPA adoption in both of these towns, and we're excited to see the final results at the polls on May 2nd. Until then, check out these great campaign photos we've received from the local CPA advocates.
