Town of Duxbury Votes to Increase CPA Surcharge

Town of Duxbury Votes to Increase CPA SurchargeOver the weekend, voters in the town of Duxbury passed the first CPA ballot measure during this year's spring CPA election season, increasing their CPA surcharge from 1% to 3%.

This is the second time that Duxbury has adjusted their local surcharge after originally adopting the Community Preservation Act in 2001 at the full 3% surcharge. In 2012, the town voted to reduce the surcharge down to 1% (as well as adopting new exemptions), but after a decade at this reduced level, local advocates thought that the time was right to commit once again to a larger investment into their CPA program. During their spring election on March 25th, Duxbury passed the increase with 59% of voters approving of the measure (total vote count: 880 Yes, 614 No). In addition to the boost to their local CPA revenue, Duxbury will also be eligible once again for the 2nd and 3rd funding rounds of the annual CPA Trust Fund distribution.

Duxbury now joins the town of Ayer as one of the only CPA communities to successfully return to a 3% surcharge level after having previously voted to reduce it.
