Horizons For Youth Camp Acquisition, Sharon

CPA funds were used to acquire a 46.7 acre parcel of land formerly owned and operated by the Horizons for Youth organization, located on the shore of the community’s recreational crown jewel – the 353 acre Lake Massapoag. The property comprises beach front, wooded and open areas, wetlands and trails, and several buildings. By acquiring the property, the town gained control over a significant part of the lake’s watershed lands which can now be protected permanently from development. This will help the town safeguard the lake’s water quality over time. The property will be used for active and passive recreation, and further CPA funds may be used to rehabilitate the camp buildings and facilities to lease out or for operation by the town.
