CPA Clean Sweep - Nine Communities Adopt CPA, Total Rises to 186
CPA advocates across the state are celebrating today with the news that all nine communities with Community Preservation Act adoption ballot measures succeeded after yesterday's election. This marks the 3rd highest amount of CPA adoptions in a single election, just behind the 11 communities that adopted in November of 2016, and the 10 communities that adopted in November of 2004. These successes bring the total number of CPA communities to 186, or 53% of the municipalities in Massachusetts.
A total of three cities and six towns voted in favor of adoption yesterday: Framingham, Franklin, Greenfield, Hopedale, Lancaster, Lee, Milton, Shrewsbury, and Whitman all passed their CPA measures according to initial reports from each municipality. What is especially remarkable is that despite the difficulties that the adoption campaigns faced this year in the midst of a pandemic, all nine communities voted in favor of CPA by a consistently wide margin. 20 years after the Community Preservation Act was signed into law, the program's appeal and impact remain strong. New cities and towns are recognizing the importance of investing in their community, even during difficult times. And to emphasize this enthusiasm, be sure to check out all of the great Election Day campaign photos at the bottom of this page!
We’ve created the chart below, breaking down how each community voted on CPA in further detail. Please note, however, that this data is based on preliminary reports from municipalities - final vote counts and percentages may be updated throughout the week as new information is available.
