Town officials recently received a $400,000 self-help grant from the state Division of Conservation Services to go toward the purchase of a 210-acre farm near the Milford line known as the Fairbanks property. The land is located in the southwest corner of town, abutting several hundred acres of already existing conservation land. In addition to $200,000 in CPA funds and the self-help grant, money will also come from the Trustees of Reservations and the town's Conservation Commission. Seller: Mr. David Fairbanks. Map 1/2/35

The Cambridge Housing Authority, through one of its subsidiaries, acquired a former nursing home on Prospect Street for affordable rental housing. The property had been renovated three years prior to purchase and was in good condition. Within walking distance to Inman and Central Squares, the affordable rental units provide easy access to services, shops, and public transportation for its residents.

For a technical support fund for the Local Housing Partnership.

Phase III on the ongoing Historical Surveys focuses on the Minot/N. Scituate areas and Ann Vinal/Captain Pierce (Egypt) areas

For preservation work on a fish ladder located off Mordecai Lincoln Road for which the town will acquire a permanent deed restriction (ie: legal interest in the property).

Exterior restoration of 1926 house, including removal of artificial siding and repair of porches, trim, and decorative details

$9,900 spent on initial planning and site assessment for use of town-owned land, known as the "gravel pit," as an affordable housing development site. $25,100 of initial $35,000 appropriated was not spent and was returned to its funding source.

For many years, Fawn Lake has been filling in with decaying plant matter. To address this, the Town Meeting voted in March 2003 to appropriate $148,981 as initial funding for a program of hydroraking, spot herbicide application, and other steps. Work has begun on this project.
