Holliston Fairbanks property

Town officials recently received a $400,000 self-help grant from the state Division of Conservation Services to go toward the purchase of a 210-acre farm near the Milford line known as the Fairbanks property. The land is located in the southwest corner of town, abutting several hundred acres of already existing conservation land. Cambridge Scouting Way

Scouting Way, a 13-unit rental property in Area IV, involved an innovative combination of historic preservation and new construction. This deteriorated property, which once housed the regional Boy Scout headquarters, was purchased by Just-A-Start Corporation and redeveloped into 13 affordable family-sized rental units with 5 two-bedroom units and 8 three-bedroom units. Energy efficient lighting, appliances, ventilation, and a centrally located heating system help to make the project both environmentally friendly and economically sustainable. A model of good design along Prospect Street, Scouting Way won a 2005 Preservation Award from the Cambridge Historical Commission and an American Institute of Architects' Show You're Green award.
