The Everett C. Benton Library is located at 75 Oakley Road in Belmont, MA. The building is owned by the Town of Belmont and licensed for use as a library to the Friends of the Benton Library, Inc., a 501 (c)(3) organization. On February 10, 2022 the building's fieldstone chimney collapsed. The Friends of the Benton Library is requesting funding to rebuild the stone chimney and repair the parts of the building damaged by the collapse. There was damage to some roofing boards, roofing shingles, one rafter, and the bulkhead. It also impacted our ability to use the furnace, which vents through the chimney. The project will include rebuilding the chimney, repairing the roofing boards and the rafter, installing a new bulkhead, and new roofing shingles. We will have to get a new chimney pipe or liner to vent the furnace. We would also like to remove the non-functioning ventilation fans at the top of the building when the roof is redone. Those fans are not original to the building. We would like to work with a building consultant to coordinate the rebuilding project.

Restoration and preservation of eight vital records books, producing real copies, and scanning of contents

Grant to Alander Group for the restoration of the exterior of 343 Main Street, a 22,000 square foot building in downtown deemed to be historically significant to the Town.

This will fund the first step (engineering) in restoring the historic railroad station pedestrian underpass at Castle Street (it is state listed). It is town-owned. Resulting construction documents and cost estimates will be the basis to secure funds for a future construction phase

This grant will continue the Conservation Commission's multi-year open space preservation effort, to remove invasive shrubs and bittersweet in the forests and fields, to protect wildlife habitat and preserve views. The Commission regularly supplements the CPA funds with grant funding from other sources. Several years of work are now paying off with improved bird habitat and increased bird nesting activity.

This grant provides funds for the Trust to implement the Town’s CPA-eligible affordable housing priorities over the next year.

Repairs and replacement of the three existing basketball courts located at Heron Road Park, Mass Fields Park and the Smith Street./Quarry Street playground

Exterior structural renovations and improvements including masonry repairs; construction of a handicap ramp; and reconstruction of the main exterior doors at the historic property located at 65/73 Newbury Avenue known as the Atlantic Memorial Congregational Church.

Exterior restoration and preservation of the structure known as the Wollaston Congregational Church located at 48 Winthrop Avenue. Work includes masonry repairs and waterproofing of the building.

For preservation documentation of the Souther Tide Mill historic site. The project consists of a walkover reconnaissance survey of the upland property; existing conditions and structural survey of granite walls with recommendations for maintenance and repair; and photogrammetric survey of the Souther Tide Mill site including the mill building.

Seaside Gardeners of Squantum for continued support of their Causeway Beautification Program. There are 35 established daylily beds on both sides of the Squantum Causeway, as well as additional daffodil plantings. Volunteers, assisted by Department of Natural Resources employees, provide labor in weeding, mulching, and planting. This year’s funds will be used for watering of plant beds and the purchase of additional plant materials and soil.

Each year the Trails Committee brings forth a very detailed proposal, for CPA fund request for continual improvements on CPA parcels.

Land owner has generously offered an easement on her property, and a survey of the land is necessary to create the easement.

The Historic Commission may not be able to obtain the grant they had planned to receive. In order to ensure the project moves forward they have asked for additional CPA funds. If the grant is obtained these funds will roll back into the Historic Fund Balance.

Funds provided as the local match for an Army Corp of Engineering Section 1135 Stream Restoration Grant (Planning & Analysis Phase)

Review and Analyze Playground and new recreation options for East Dracut. This is a study and design phase.

Additional funding needed to complete the housing project

The Water Department describes this 76 acre piece of land as crucial to the protection of the aquifer which is the main source of water for the Town. One boundary area is the North Branch of the Manhan River. The Town well receives water from this area.

184 Broadway-acquisition by SCC for 100 Homes

A yearly appropriation to the Maynard Conservation Land Trust for the acquiring of open space land.

The Ice House Foundation project will preserve the remaining foundation of the historic James Bend Ice House, as well as, create access to the site from the Assabet Rail Trail and include the installation of an interpretive sign.
