Lexington Whipple Hill Trail Repair, Fire Access

This project will reconstruct a wetland crossing/emergency fire access at the Whipple Hill trail system. The upgrades will repair the trial system in accordance with the recommendations of the Conservation Division, Engineering, and Fire Department staff for fire access and to meet the needs of those who use the trail system. The project will also prevent adverse impacts to surrounding wetlands as a result of the soil degradation and erosion along the existing trail.

Lexington Public Grounds Irrigation Improvements

Malden Kierstead Park Improvement Project

The goal of this project is to create a destination playground for children of all ages and to upgrade the Little League ballfield at Kierstead Park. The Kierstead Park Improvement Project will develop a new, accessible playground that will create new opportunities for play for children of varying abilities. The playground will replace an existing play area with two new structures, including a tall one for children ages 5-12 and a second one for children ages 2-5. The playground will also incorporate a swing set with two strap seats, a bucket seat for young children, and an accessible seat for children with special needs. Benches, tables, and seats will be located within the play area for children and adults. Poured rubber will be installed around the play structures. Adjacent to the play area, and enclosed within a chain-link fence, will be open space for games, running, relaxing, and picnicking. The plan will also improve the ball field by realigning its orientation as recommended by the Little League and Malden Recreation. As agreed by these groups, the underutilized scoreboard will be removed, and a new foul pole put in place. A new, larger backstop will be installed, as well as a batting cage, new player benches, and two sets of bleachers. New fencing will be built around the perimeter of the field with varying heights to ensure that balls do not pose a safety hazard from the field or batting cage while also delineating a standard height for a home run. Thirteen new trees of diverse species will be planted throughout the park. A new water service will be installed to irrigate the ball-field. Trash receptacles will be installed at the entrances to the park and new pathways will be built to ADA specifications.

Malden Early Learning Center Improvement Project

The Early Learning Center Concept Plan will develop a new, inclusive, accessible, and modern playground that will create new opportunities for play that will be age appropriate and appeal to children of varying abilities. The plan will also improve safety from exposure to the sun with 8 new shade trees and ground cover to replace hard surfaces, and safety from vehicles due to a redesigned circulation in the adjacent parking lot. The Playground will include a new and enlarged play structure for older children, a smaller play area for younger children, and an accessible merry-go-round. The surface of the play area will be multi-colored poured-in-place rubber. There will also be a paved area for imaginative play, an area surfaced with wood fiber that could become the site of a future garden, and there will be a large green space with 8 new trees and native shrubs that will serve as a buffer between the playground and parking lot to provide shade, cool temperatures, and attract local pollinators.

Lexington Stone Building Design and Unexpected Repairs

This project is for the design of the first phase of the renovation and new addition at the Ellen Stone Building. The design would restore the original floor plan, modified to accommodate future tenants and their specific uses, as outlined in the 2009 Stone Building Historic Structures Report. The project will stabilize a historic structure that has been in a state of disrepair for over a decade, and it will prepare the building for use as a community space and lease to an appropriate tenant.

Lexington Lincoln Park Field Improvements including Lighting
