This project proposes to appropriate $70,000 from the Open Space and Recreation Reserve Account for design services for restoration of the playground at Edgemere Park as well as a town wide assessment of the nine (9) Town parks and six (6) school parks. Many of the playgrounds were built as part of subdivision construction or fundraising done by school PTO groups. The majority of the playgrounds do not have accessible surfaces or modern safety surfaces. The playgrounds do get a lot of use and are typically 15 to 30 plus years old. Play for children is essential for their development of social and motor skills. Designing a new playground at Edgemere Park will align with the Parks Division goals for continuing to improve recreation areas for our community.

To address surficial concerns for the multi-purpose field at the Middle School (H Field) with improvements such as grading, fencing, and grass repair to improve the playability of the field

Project funding is for the continued renovation of the track and field facility at the Bradley Fuller Athletic Field on Low Street

Installation of track lighting fixtures with LED lamps to illuminate displays of historic artifacts at Carlisle Historic Society.

The goal of this project is to complete Phase II of the 2019 Trafton Park Master Plan. In FY19 CPC awarded $45,000.00 to complete the Trafton Park Master Plan and Feasibility Study, and in FY20 CPC awarded $225,000.00 for Phase I Construction for Trafton Park. The Trafton Park Phase II Construction project will facilitate the replacement of the existing backstop and convert the existing baseball field into one that may be used for baseball, softball and soccer. The existing two tennis courts will be adapted to one improved court, a basketball court, and a free play area. The dog park will be improved with new surfacing, benches, shade trees, and water for dogs and humans. Electrical connections will be established at the plaza for community events including July 4 and Halloween. And the circular loop around the park will be completed for walkers and bicyclists. Eight (8) new trees of diverse species will be planted throughout the park. A new water service will be installed to irrigate the field and provide fresh water to dogs and humans. Solar lighting will be installed to illuminate the field and park. Trash receptacles will be installed at the entrances to the park and new pathways will be built to ADA specifications.

Design phase for revitalization and capitalized improvements for Trafton Park

Funding for the design, engineering, permitting, construction, material, and supplies to build and preserve trails, parking lots, related facilities and administrative costs on CPC purchased properties in the Town of Sturbridge for open space and recreational purposes.

For construction materials for the creation of new trails; a parking area for the proposed Hop Brook Trail; and repair of existing trails.

These funds will allow the Department of Public Works to acquire mobile trail monitoring equipment, TrfX, which will provide the Town with accurate counts of trail usage to help with planning for trail maintenance, preservation and improvement efforts.

These funds will fund design, permitting, development and construction of additional trails at Leadmine Mountain and Heins Farm, which are CPA funded properties.

Matching funds for a 15,000 grant to expand trails.

This project will design a consistent system of identification signage for the trailheads, information kiosks, and directional signage.

Appropriate $22,000 from the Community Preservation Fund for improvements including trail/bridge work, viewing platform (Chapman's Landing), signage, and boardwalks to Chapman's Landing, French's Stream, Colby Phillips, Denham Property and Folly Hill.
