Gloucester Universalist Meetinghouse Resoration Phase II

It is an often-cited example of a design popularized by an early American architect, Asher Benjamin. the 155-foot lantern tower lighted at night is an iconic symbol of the City and has guided mariners in to Gloucester Harbor for more than 200 years. The Meetinghouse hosts dozens of public events each year including theatrical and musical performances, lectures, benefit events and group meetings. The Sanctuary and other areas where these events are held are now inaccessible to persons unable to navigate stairs. Arlington Update Historic Resources Inventory

To successfully preserve and enhance Arlington’s historic heritage, there must first be an accurate record of the town’s historic resources. As called for in the recent Master Plan, this project would update the town’s Inventory of Historically or Architecturally Significant Properties. The inventory, a very important reference for town officials, residents and community groups, is currently out of date, incomplete, and in some cases inconsistent with state records. An important part of the study is an historic structures report for the older section of the High School. It will establish baseline information that can be used in the feasibility study for rebuilding the school. 7/2022 Update . Since receiving the project funds, 135 Massachusetts Historical Commission (MHC) Inventory Forms B were completed for properties in the neighborhoods south of the High School and the Survey Master Plan was completed. No historic structure report for the High School was completed. The DPCD determined the project could not continue until such time that the AHC process becomes clearer for all involved, especially the property owners that are potentially subject to future review. Remaining funds were returned to the CPA fund.
