Falmouth Willett Way Community Housing

Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod purchased a 5-acre site to build 10 single family affordable homes. Ten ranch-style homes will be constructed in two phases, 6 in Phase 1 and 4 in Phase 2. Requested CPA funding will be used for site clearance, drainage, and road construction for all 10 units. The project received a prior appropriation of $362,000 to acquire the project site.

Arlington Whittemore-Robbins Carriage House

This project addresses the immediate structural issues of the Carriage House and preserves the historic building, which is an original part of Whittemore-Robbins estate, created in the early mid-nineteenth century. The current use of the Carriage House is for storage that supports the rental functions of the Whitttemore-Robbins house. The goal of the funding request for the Whittemore-Robbins Carriage House is to repair deterioration and rehabilitate the historic building. The Carriage House is listed on the Massachusetts Historical Commission’s Inventory of historic assets of the Commonwealth and on the National Register of Historic Places. Historical Preservation Restriction Note: The previous Historical Preservation Restriction was created in 1983 and was held by the Town of Arlington, and the MA Historical Commission.

Arlington Whittemore Robbins Cottage Exterior Rehabilitation

This historic preservation project will restore the exterior Whittemore Robbins Cottage House. The Cottage is one of three structures included within the Whittemore Robbins Estate which was built in the early 1800s. In 1890, the buildings were moved to their present location to make space for the Robbins Library and in 1931 the Whittemore Robbins Estate was given to the Town by the Robbins Family. In 1997, the Town of Arlington completed the rehabilitation of the main Whittemore Robbins mansion which houses the Arlington Youth Counseling Center and is rented during off hours for events. This property is listed on the State and National Registers of Historic Properties, both as an individual property (ARL.601, 7/18/1974), and as part of the Arlington Center Historic District (National Register, 9/2/1985). Restoring the Cottage will allow the Town to create six offices that will address the growing need for counseling space for the Arlington Youth Counseling Center.

Arlington Whittemore Park Revitalization Study

This project will plan for the revitalization of the Town’s Common next to the Dallin Museum. The park is currently underutilized and will benefit from a comprehensive review of the physical grounds, its role as a congregational space, and its history. Initial ideas for improving the space came from the overall MassDOT work for Massachusetts Avenue, which called attention to its role in the public space improvements along the corridor. This study will build on that work and seek ideas to make it more welcoming. This property holds a preservation restriction created in 1986 by the Massachusetts Historical Commission and the Town of Arlington.

Arlington Whittemore Park Revitalization Project

This historic preservation project will preserve a historic and cultural resource, improve a recreation opportunity, and revitalize the space around community art and activities. This project includes repairs that will make the park more functional and compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This phase of the project will include renovations to the portion of the park in front of the Jefferson Cutter House, including the creation of a circuit path, removal of trees, planting new trees, renovations to the rail corridor, and improvements to the central lawn.
