Acton Acton Congregational Church – Stained Glass Window Preservation

The Acton Congregational Church is located at 12 Concord Road in the Acton Center Historic District. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Acton Historical Commission’s Cultural Resource List. It was built in 1846 with renovations made in 1889. The funding has been made for the restoration for the approximately 120-years-old stained glass windows that need attention in the short term in order to prevent further damage.

Acton Jones Playground Surfacing Expansion

Located in South Acton, Jones is the sole municipal playground in that area of Town, convenient to many South Acton neighborhoods. In keeping with the Town’s recreation goals in the Open Space and Recreation Plan, as well as the expressed desire of many residents, a fully accessible playground is greatly needed. The funds will be used to fund poured rubber surfacing around all play structures at the Jones Field Playground to ensure a more accessible playground to people with all abilities.

Acton 53 River Street Historic Park

To assist the town gather more information for any future development of the Town-owned parcel as a park. The parcel contains an old dam. In November 2018, the Town obtained an inspection/evaluation report for the River Street Dam. The dam has been classified by the Office of Dam Safety as a small, significant (class II) hazard potential dam that has been found to be in unsafe condition. The report recommends a dam breach or removal.

Acton Acton School Street Project - Historic Preservation

The Historic Resource category assists Habitat with the building’s rehabilitation in accordance with the requirements of the Acton Historic District Commission and consistent with the United States Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties, including windows, doors, roofing, gutters, masonry, and exterior trim.

It is now owned by Habitat for Humanity North Central Mass, Inc.Funding will be contingent on recording a perpetual affordable housing restriction that secures the property on Acton’s Subsidized Housing Inventory.

Acton Kennedy Building Rehabilitation at Woodlawn Cemetery

To complete funding for the rehabilitation and renovation of the Kennedy Building, located in Woodlawn Cemetery. The work includes accessibility improvement that will make the building fully ADA compliant; windows and front door; and interior rearrangement of offices, meeting room and other spaces to better fulfill their purposes. The Acton Historical Commission has determined that The Kennedy Building is an important cultural resource in its cemetery context, setting and function.

Acton Accessible Campsite at Camp Acton

For the creation of one handicapped accessible campsite at Camp Acton, by modifying the landscape to improve overall accessibility of the site, toilets, and parking lot. Improvements include compacted surfaces, a boardwalk, a raised campfire ring, two wheelchair friendly tent sites, a wheelchair-friendly picnic table, drainage and removal of hazardous trees.

Acton Town of Acton Woodlawn Cemetery Gates

The project is to preserve the nearly one hundred year old stone piers that define the three gates of the Woodlawn Cemetery along Concord Road. The Woodlawn Cemetery is a designated historic and cultural resource listed on the Acton and Massachusetts Cultural Resource List and it has been recommended for listing in the National Register of Historic Places.

Acton Iron Work Farm – Jones Tavern Preservation Project

Funding has been made to the preservation, restoration, and protection of the original historic features including window frames, rotted clapboards, and trim elements on the 1732 main house, the ca. 1750 tavern ell, and the early 19th-century west ell. It also includes some selective repointing of the foundation, replacement of the wood shingle roof on the 1870s north ell, and the historically-appropriate replacement of some 20th- century features that have deteriorated beyond repair. The Jones Tavern has received CPA grants in prior years to restore its four brick chimneys and replace a portion of its roof. There is an existing historic preservation restriction and the historic preservation restriction may need to be updated.

Acton NARA Parking Lot Expansion

Funding has been made to the construction of a parking expansion at the upper parking lot. The upper lot consists of a 24-car paved parking lot extension along the walking trail between the existing paved upper lot and the sports pavilion. The parking lot will include additional handicap spaces next to the sports pavilion and provide for better traffic circulation.

Acton Acton Historical Society – Re-roof at the Jonathan & Simon Hosmer House

Funding has been made to the removal and replacement of the existing wood shingle roof. The House is in danger of water and other damage due to the deterioration of the roof. The Acton Historical Society received CPA grants in 2011 for the restoration, rehabilitation of the windows and doors and for the roof replacement of two out-buildings on the property. There is an existing historic preservation restriction and the existing historic preservation restriction may need to be updated.

Acton Acton Arboretum Cedar Arbor, Kiosk and Culvert

Funding has been made to fund a three piece project to help restore existing recreational structures to enhance the Arboretum. It first helps to create a new cedar arbor to replace the broken one. Next, the it helps to the replace the old kiosk. Lastly, it helps to replace a broken culvert under the wildflower trail. The Friends of the Acton Arboretum will donate $1,000 to help offset the costs of this project.

Funding has been made to replenish the existing Community Housing Program Fund for "the acquisition, creation, preservation, and support of community housing in the Town of Acton." ACHC proposes to continue its current programs and initiate new ones: Grant for Housing and Economic Development Implementation Plan with EOEEA matching grant $18,750; capital improvement for affordable unit $1800. $60,000 grant to Habitat of Humanity to subsidize a duplex at 43-45 School St.

This parcel contains 11.94 acres of open space, of which roughly eight acres is forested wetlands and floodplain. Within the wetlands on the property is the tributary that forms Muddy Brook. Mt. Acton Skate Park Expansion – Phase 2, Skate Plaza

Funding has been made for phase two of a two-part expansion of the T.J. O’Grady Skatepark. Phase two construction consists of a triangular Skate Plaza. Phase two converts the barren 100’ x 100’ area remaining after the original Skate Park parking lot was removed to support the Lower Fields’ synthetic turf field complex installation.

Acton Discovery Museum- Discovery Woods & Creativity Playscape

The Discovery Museums, INC. proposes to build two main outdoor recreational activity areas, called Discovery Woods and Creativity Playscape, to relocate parking and to build a gateway/ portal to allow better access to the adjacent Great Hill conservation and recreation land. The Total project cost is 1.3 million, of which 85% is funded through private donations. Funding has been made to help fund the two main outdoor areas, Discovery Woods (a nature playscape) and the Creativity Playscape.

Acton Acton Women's Club- Phase 2, Preservation & Accessibility

The Acton Women's Club is located in the Acton Center Historic District. The Women's Club received Community Preservation Act (CPA) funding in 2011 for the installation for an accessible sloped walkway at the right-side building entrance to provide handicap accessibility to the first floor. Funding has been made to complete the second phase of the project and include addressable fire alarm system, illuminated signs, emergency lighting and panic devices on the exit doors.
