Acton Revolutionary War Gravestone Restoration

The Revolutionary War Section of Woodlawn Cemetery, located at 74 Concord Road, contains approximately four hundred gravestones, with lichen presence and breakage being a serious concern. The proposal would repair and reset each gravestone, as needed, and treat each instance of lichen with D/2 biological without the need of damaging scrubbing. CPA funds will be used to rehabilitate this historic section of the Cemetery in time for the 250th anniversary of the Revolutionary War.

Acton Storm Windows at Jones Tavern

Jones Tavern located at 128 Main Street, is one of Acton’s oldest and most important historic properties. Iron Work Farm in Acton, Inc., a local 501(c) (3) non-profit corporation, received CPA funding in 2019 to preserve, rehabilitate, and restore the historic sashes of seventy-two windows at the Jones Tavern and Faulkner Homestead. The Massachusetts Historical Commission is now encouraging installation of storm windows to preserve and extend the life of historic windows. The funds are for purchasing and installation of storm windows to protect forty-four windows at Jones Tavern.

Acton Exterior Painting at Faulkner

The funds will be used to preserve the Faulkner Homestead’s historic fabric by painting the exterior of the building located at 5 High Street. At the Faulkner House, exterior painting will forestall further damage from the New England weather, diminishing the need for replacement of architectural components such as original skived clapboards, trim elements, and even parts of the frame that might otherwise succumb to water damage. Exterior painting will prolong the life of the vital building and preserve the historic features for the benefit of the public.

Acton Gardner Playground - Phase 3 Landscaping

Shade trees, additional planted islands, additional seating, a gate, part of a walkway, and signage are all included in this appropriation. Acton Elm Street Tennis Courts

The Elm Street Courts, used for tennis and more recently and increasingly for pickleball, have many cracks and imperfections that have increased the unsafe playing conditions. The resurfacing and relining will eliminate cracks and imperfections caused by wear and tear.

Acton Heath Hen Meadow Boardwalk

Funds would be used to rebuild the existing 211-foot boardwalk at Heath Hen Meadow Conservation Land located off Robbins Street. The boardwalk, utilized daily by many residents and visitors, connects the trail systems at Mt. Hope Cemetery, the conservation parcel at 176 Central Street, and Heath Hen Meadow Conservation Land. Damaged by flooding and falling trees, the boardwalk and bridge have had multiple repairs over the past 25 years. With the current structure occasionally submerging during high water, the Land Stewardship Committee volunteers will rebuild the boardwalk and raise it twelve inches to prevent future submersions. Made of 95% recycled materials, Trex Composite Decking Material will be substituted for traditional lumber decking, as it does not require maintenance.

Acton Acton Housing Authority - Windsor Green Window Replacement

Supported by the Acton Housing Authority, the 68-unit affordable rental housing development for seniors and disabled households needs to replace the existing windows. All the units are for low-income households whose annual income is less than 80% of the area-wide median income. Since Windsor Green opened in 1980, the AHA replaced few windows and it is difficult to open and close the windows due to age and warping. The AHA identified window replacement as the highest need for residents.

Acton Habitat for Humanity - 26 Carlisle Road

Funds will be used for electrical work, plumbing, heating, insulation and drywall for Habitat for Humanity’s rebuild of the home at 26 Carlisle Road. The home will be deeded restricted for affordable in perpetuity and will be added to Acton's Subsidized Affordable Housing Inventory for the life of the home. Once completed, Habitat for Humanity will sell the home to a family earning 30-60% of area median income, with a need for safe, affordable housing and a willingness to partner in the building of their home. Habitat Construction Manager will run the building project with mostly volunteer labor from surrounding communities, including the future homeowners. The total project plan includes building a three-bedroom, two-bathroom, accessible, and energy-efficient home with approximately 1,150 square feet of living space.
