Replaced original slate roof on Acton town hall. The 1864 building is on the National Register of Historic Places

For engineering work and architectural studies to prepare RFPs for for the restoration of historic Ayer Town Hall roof.

Restoration of the wooden facade (27900) and slate roof (9500) were originally submitted to CPA as two requests, later combined into one article at annual town meeting.

The existing roof needs to be removed and repaired. The amount not spent will be returned to the general fund ($1,206).

To replace the sewer lateral to the Town Hall.

To replace the painted sign above the entrance doors of the antique portion of the Town Hall

The project will fund the restoration and hanging of two stage backdrop curtains originally painted and hung on the Town Hall stage during the first half of the 20th Century.

Repair and restore Katharine Cornell Theatre Steeple on Tisbury Town Hall.

Storm windows to protect the antique windows which were restored when Town Hall was renovated. The old windows are not energy efficient and storm windows are necessary to protect the windows.

Studies include ADA Elevator Study, space plan, and environmental assessment of Town Hall including investigation and assessment of possible mold at Town Hall.

“Historic Town Hall Window Restoration and Preservation” To see if the Town will vote, pursuant to G.L. 44B, to appropriate from the Community Preservation Fund Undesignated Account of Fiscal Year 2023 the amount of $457,000.00 (Four Hundred Fifty Seven Thousand Dollars) for the preservation and rehabilitation of the Historic Town Hall Building, including, but not limited to: the restoration of all windows; replacement of sashes/weights; removal of lead paint and hazardous substances; reconstruction of existing windows; the addition of exterior storm windows and additional painting as needed; and any and all incidental and related costs. All preservation activities will be accomplished in a manner consistent with the guidelines and requirements of the United States Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties (Department of Interior Regulations Standards for Rehabilitation codified in 36 CFR 67); and further, to authorize the Board of Selectmen and the Georgetown Historical Commission to enter into all agreements and execute any and all instruments for any grants to defer the costs associated with this preservation and rehabilitation initiative; any funds from this appropriation remaining unspent after a period of 3 years from the date of the approval of this article will be returned to the Community Preservation fund only after a vote by the Community Preservation Committee determining that it is unlikely the remaining appropriated funds will need to be spent to this effect; or take any other action in relation thereto.

SA 26 April 2018 Town Hall Windows Phase II This will complete the last five windows installation in the Town Hall.

Supplemental funding for the restoration, purchase, and installation of windows at the Town Hall

To fund the engineering, architectural and historical studies related to replace the windows at the town hall

Town Hall is located in the Acton Centre Local Historic District and as such on the National Register of Historic Places. Town Hall was built in 1864. The windows in the original 1864 portion of the building have never been restored or replaced, only painted. Many panes have the original wavy glass. The windows are still sound, but operate poorly or malfunction due to age, multiple paint layers, and problems with the weights and/or ropes. Aluminum storm windows were added around 1970. They are in poor condition, not functioning, and historically inappropriate. This Phase II Town Hall window restoration project will restore the windows of the second floor, mezzanine, and belfry, including replacement of aluminum storm windows with new historically appropriate and operable wooden storm windows.
