Preservation of town records

The electronic digitization and conservation of Town permenant records.

Phase IV of town records preservation in the Town Clerk's office.

To appropriate up to $22,000 in fiscal 2016 from the Community Preservation Fund Historic Preservation Reserve to assist the Town Clerk’s office in the de-acidification, restoration and filming/digitization for the purpose of preserving and expanding/enhancing public access to historic town records. Records to be preserved consist of Selectmen’s records Vol. 1-10, dated from 1724-1925, plus the index to records 1724-1850. The appropriation is requested subject to the understanding that the Town Clerk will seek to make copies of microfilm or digital media available to researchers through placement in the Town Library or other publicly accessible place in addition to the Town Clerk’s office. All funds are to be expended within one year from date of appropriation.

Fund Phase I of project to preserve historic town records by restoring, preserving and microfilming the records, including a computerized document management system

Cleaning and preservation of 380 volumes of historic archives formerly stored in the Town Hall basement; and scanning and microfliming of burial permits.

To bind and re-bind permanent town birth, death, marriage intentions/licenses, town meeting minutes, town reports and street lists etc.

To preserve and rebind historic town records that pre-date Bourne's establishment in 1884

To purchase metal shelving and a dehumidifier for the preservation of historical town records being stored in town offices.

$28,373 for the second year of a five year project to preserve and digitize the town’s records. The total five-year cost is projected to be approximately 130,000 with the first year successfully completed for 31,319; This project is not funded by bonding, rather each successive phase must be appropriated each year until finished.

Fourth Year of five year project

This project will fund the preservation of Town Records, specifically to disband, clean, de-acidify, repair, and rebind Town Vital Records, Town Meeting Records,and Selectmen's Records for 18th, 19th and 20th Centuries. Records will be scanned, microfilmed and digitized. Request for $25000 from FY 15 and $25000 from FY16 have been approved.

To fund the National Resources Trust to conduct an engineering survey, a bridge design, a site plan, and bridge abutment construction at the Town River Landing

Replacement of the ‘modern’ steel Town Tomb door with a more appropriate period iron door would cost approximately $3,000—the original hinges survive and would be restored and reused. Resetting the new door would have to be done in coordination with reconstruction of the stone facing for the Tomb
