This article enabled the Town to continue its partnership with the Brewster Conservation Trust (BCT), working together to preserve critical open space, in this case, 4.925 acres abutting the Townâs Bakerâs Pond Conservation Area. This acquisition preserves a walking trail that connects existing Town trails with Nickerson State Park. The Towns of Brewster and Orleans, along with the BCT, own 140 acres of conservation land east and south of this land acquisition. These entities jointly manage the two-mile public walking loop trail there, with parking on Bakerâs Pond Road. BCT has purchased the land for $360,000. The requested $250,000 in CPA funds will be used to place a conservation restriction on the property, which will be held by the Town. A total of $264,000 in funds includes $14,000 for legal and other expenses. |

The survey would be an intensive survey of the cultural and architectural resources in West Newbury, identify historic resources, complete inventory forms for each property and prepare a final report and map which would include further recommendations for properties for the National Historic Register and areas to be considered as National Historic Districts. The first two surveys produced a robust list of recommendations, as well as captured the history of our Town through the stories of the properties. |

Habitat for Humanity is buying 2.79 acres from the Friends of Dennis Senior Citizens, Inc, in preparation of building 4 houses. HHCC plans to purchase the land and then permit a four-single family home project under Massachusetts General Law, Chapter 40B. Once built, all four of the homes will be sold affordably to income-eligible households between 60% and 80% of area median income (AMI) or lower and moderate-income families as defined by Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD). All subsequent sales (resale) of the homes will be at 80% of AMI or less, with home sale prices controlled in perpetuity by the DHCD approved deed riders and regulatory agreement to be recorded at the Barnstable County Registry of Deeds. Habitat will request from DHCD the maximum allowable local preference (up to 70%) for the sale of the homes. All homes will be eligible for the Townâs Subsidized Housing Inventory (SHI). Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod is requesting $341,250 for the acquisition of the land for this project. This article will require an Affordable Housing Restriction on the buildings. |

This new Phase II construction will create eight one-bedroom apartments for independent living to accommodate developmentally disabled adults who still need supportive services, health and safety supervision and access to 24-hour emergency response, but do not require a congregate setting with around-the-clock staffing. These eight new homes represent the fulfillment of our original commitment to the Town of Dennis to build a total of 16 special needs housing units at the Hokum Rock site.
