Preservation of existing recreational areas, including Cherry Brook Road and Brook School tennis courts

To develop a plan for re-use of these two historic buildings located on Weston’s Town Green, which have been underutilized for a number of years. The Josiah Smith Tavern Committee has recommended that the Josiah Smith Tavern be developed as a restaurant, and that the Clothing Exchange and other functions of the Women’s Community League, which currently leases the Josiah Smith Tavern Barn, be moved to the Old Library. In addition, the Old Library is proposed to be used to house historical archives and has been mentioned as a possible future home to the cable television local access studio.

Additional appropriation for affordable housing consultant

For preservation of multiple natural turf playing fields and their surroundings located at the High School, College Pond, Cherrybrook Road and others. The work will include aeration, top dressing, re-seeding, over-seeding, sod, irrigation, drainage, fencing, and landscaping. The funds will also be spent for preservation of tennis court and outdoor basketball/sports courts at various locations, including the High School, Middle School, College Pond, Cherrybrook Road, and Brook School Apartments.

Continuing funding for field restoration (see Field Preservation project in 2004)

To design and construct a new multipurpose playing field on property under the jurisdiction of the School Committee

Supplemental appropriation for restoration of the Tavern exterior

For retaining an affordable housing consultant to assist the Town in developing and proposing strategies to create affordable housing

To convert the historic Town-owned Fiske building to an income-producing asset by renovating and bringing up to code so suitable to rent to professional tenant.

For restoration of the historic Melone Homestead, including installation of new bathrooms and heating systems. All systems will be brought up to code and accessibility will be improved.

For preservation of 2-3 of the 36 historic town-owned fields - to remove invasive plants to restore the open space back to the historic stone wall boundaries and improve the viewscapes into the fields from the streets nearby.

To buy Sunday Woods, 23 acres of open space. The total price was $3.25 million. Seller: Sunday Woods Trust. Map 21, Lot 08 - 00

Pickleball Construction and Tennis Court Replacement at Burchard Park will build new pickleball courts and demolition and reconstruction of the tennis and basketball courts in their existing locations.

Staff support for creation, preservation, and support of community housing. Includes municipal staff support and participation in a regional housing services office.

Purchase of historic preservation restriction on John Warren House located at 71 Lexington St., one of only 3 surviving First Period homes in Weston.

Rehabilitation of 1.5 acre park in geographic center of Weston.

Architectural and engineering fees for the rehabilitation/restoration of the Josiah Smith Tavern
