Last Term for State Representative & CPA Advocate Stephen Kulik

Rep Stephen KulikFeb.15, 2018: Representative Stephen Kulik, a longtime champion of the Community Preservation Act, announced this week that he will not be seeking reelection after this year. Currently serving as Vice Chair of the House Ways and Means Committee, Kulik will be stepping down from his position in the MA State Legislature at the end of the current term (January, 2019).

As the Representative for the 1st Franklin District for the last 25 years, Kulik has played no small part in the ongoing success of the Community Preservation Act. The Coalition has been able to rely on Kulik's leadership many times in our efforts at the State House, and for nearly a decade he has been one of the foremost proponents in protecting, advancing, and advocating for the statewide CPA program. Kulik filed the current CPA bill, H.3662, that would provide a higher state match to all CPA communities.

Speaking with the Coalition, Kulik had the following to say:

Representative Kulik with Former Seceratary of the Environment Bob Durand and Governor Charlie Baker“The Community Preservation Act has benefited so many Massachusetts residents over the years, and I am proud to have been a part of that legacy,” Kulik said. “During the remaining months of my term, I will continue to push for passage of the CPA Trust Fund legislation, ensuring that the 172 communities that have adopted the program, and the ones that will adopt in the future, can continue their important community preservation efforts.”

Representative Kulik is planning for a busy sprint to the finish of this legislative session as we push for passage of legislation to stabilize the CPA Trust Fund. We're hopeful that this legislation will be an exciting capstone for his many years of public service, and we wish to thank him for his incredible commitment to the CPA program.
