Waltham Chauncy Newhall School 101 Prospect St. - Roof

There were two phases of this project. (1) 9/26/11 Council Order #31613 Architect plans to restore architectural elements and replace the slate roof over the former Chauncy Newhall Elementary School at 101 Prospect St. currently community housing, with construction oversight included. This phase was closed in July 2014 with $43,753 spent of $45,500 appropriated. (2) 12/26/12 Council #31852 Construction. This phase was closed 8/15/14 using the entire Order of $848,891. Waltham Acquisition of Surplus Fernald Property

During long term efforts to acquire the Fernald School property, an initial request was Recommended by the CPC and appropriated by City Council Orders#31308 and 31309 on April 13, 2010 for planning for the surplus of the Fernald, of which $9850 was spent.. The Mayor negotiated a price for the Fernald which subsequently was Recommended by the CPC for a portion of the property and appropriated by the City Council on City Council Order #33161 for $2,714,331.80 on December 9, 2014. Future projects for CPA funds will be added as appropriated. Property is 190 acres total, 140 of which were purchased with CPA funds, (50 acres are non-CPA). Seller: Commonwealth of MA. Waltham Acquisition of Surplus Fernald Property

Demolition of Buildings - Fernald. The entire campus of the Fernald School is designated historic. The buildings within the portion acquired with CPA funds will be classified as contributing (historic and usable) or non- contributing and selectively removed or maintained. Twenty buildings were initially designated as non-contributing. As of the beginning of FY 2018, $46405 has been spent, $798569 encumbered and $200669 available. Hazards studies are in progress prior to demolition.

Waltham Tenant Based Rental Assistance (TBRA)

A Tenant Based Rental Assistance Program (TBRA) initiated by the Waltham Association to Create Housing (WATCH) was co-sponsored by the Waltham Housing Authority (WHA) . The WHA became the sole program administrator with WATCH assisting renters with TBRA applications. The grant of $2,001,500.00 is a 3 year pilot program which will provide subsidies as vouchers to landlords to supplement the affordable rent paid by an estimated 50 families living or working in Waltham..
