Universalist Meetinghouse Resoration Phase II
Built in 1805-06 the Meetinghouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is the oldest standing church in Gloucester. It is an often-cited example of a design popularized by an early American architect, Asher Benjamin. the 155-foot lantern tower lighted at night is an iconic symbol of the City and has guided mariners in to Gloucester Harbor for more than 200 years. The Meetinghouse hosts dozens of public events each year including theatrical and musical performances, lectures, benefit events and group meetings.
Waterfront Resiliency Survey - Maritime
Site Re-Elevation and Waterfront Resiliency Improvements project. Design, permit and construct improvements to their historic working waterfront located at 23 Harbor Loop that will add adding 75+ years of resiliency against sea-level rise flooding.
Welcome Center Restoration
The Advisory Committee will, restore and rehabilitate the exterior of the building. The stone work includes the façade and steps are in need of pressure wash cleaning, re-pointing, and re-capping the stairways. The wood areas will be cleaned and re-painted and the deck flooring will be cleaned and treated, with a few boards needing replacement.
WHITE-ELLERY HOUSE STABILIZATION AND PRESERVATION
The funds shall be utilized to assist in the stabilization and preservation of the small wooden-framed barn located adjacent to the historic White-Ellery House (1970), just off Grant Circle. The barn was built c. 1740 and has been owned by the Museum for many years. Some stabilization work was done in 2009-10, however, additional work urgently needs to be done to save the building.
Willowood Gardens Roof Replacement
The project includes preservation of existing affordable housing from injury, harm or destruction. The replacement of the roofs preserves the building envelope of the 9 multifamily buildings and allows the continued habitability of the 60 affordable units.
Wostrel Environmental - Adventure Center
The Worstrel Environmental-Adventure Center will be an education center adjacent to the Annisquam River and Gloucester High School that will utilize this unique environmental area to enhance outdoor educational and vocational opportunites for Gloucester High School students. The project will include construction of a Challenge Course, an addition to the existing Aquaculture Lab, and a Community Garden. Community Preservation Act funds will be used to remove and replace invasive Norway maples with species beneficial to wildlife.
