Westport Unit accessibility project

For a unit accessibility project. This money will be used for the engineering and design of handicap accessible units for elderly and disabled individuals. It will also include test borings and perc tests for new units. Presently only four units are considered handicap accessible and even they don't meet today's standards.

Westport Westport River Dredging Project

The Westport River Dredging Project will allow the restoration of the Westport Point Historic District Waterways. The monies will be used to deepen the area now known as the mud dock, west of Lees Wharf, and to dredge the area west of the town docks, up to and including the harbormaster dock.

Westport Historic signs

For historic signs in Westport. Signs installed are 26"x40" roadside markers and they can be seen at the Head of Westport, Town line on Old County Road, Hix Bridge, Westport Point, Quaker Meeting House, Westport Harbor,
and one on Main Road describing the legend of the Westport Turnips. In addition, there are also corner
signs marking historic locations in Town.

Westport Leonard Santos Farm

As part of an 80 acre open space purchase (see open space section) the town will require a deed restriction on a historic duplex adjacent to the property purchased. Westport Town Farm Historic Research Project

To compile historic research in three areas for the Westport Town Farm: 1) the early history of the farm built around deed searches, wills, and family histories mostly centered around Daniel and Stephen Wilcox families; 2) the farm changing into the Westport Town Farm and further documenting the whole system of Poor Farms in New England; 3) early Paupers Reports (Westport's first town reports) and the Overseers of the Poor. Who were the inmates of the poor farm and what tasks and chores were expected of them? CPC funds are for researchers, writers, photographers, and print costs.

Westport Town Farm Restoration

Westport Wolf Pit School

To preserve and restore the last remaining one room schoolhouse in Westport, built in 1833. After the restoration of this privately owned building, the Town will have access to it through a historic preservation restriction and students of all ages will be given the opportunity to visit and learn more of our Town's past. The Massachusetts Historical Commission has stated that the Wolf Pit School is eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places.

Westport Waite-Potter House Restoration

This project provided for the stabilization of the stone-end chimney, rebuilding of the existing fireplace, and re-pointing th existing structure. This nationally significant Waite-Potter site holds the essences of Westport History, and is the oldest surviving 17th century stone-end chimney in Bristol County. Not only is it distinguished as Westport's earliest structure, but it holds an honorable position on Westport's Town Seal.

Westport Life Saving Station Restoration

The Westport Fishermen's Association is in the process of restoring Life Saving Station No. 69. This station was built in 1888 by the Massachusetts Humane Society, which was formed in response to a need to assist shipwreck survivors.When completed, this project will provide a Visitor's Center available for town and school use. Funding for this project were approved at the May 1, 2007 Town Meeting and the May 6, 2008 Special Town Meeing.

Westport Estuaries Project

This is a two year project committing funds from FY 07 and FY 08. Basic tasks include: compiling, reviewing, and synthesizing existing studies; determining nitrogen targets for management and/or restoration; determining nitrogen management options on a site-specific basis; testing "what if scenarios" for nitrogen management options; providing assisstance in selecting implementation options; and enhancing public education regarding the health of the Westport River.

This building was formerly known as the Head of Westport School constructed in the early 1900's. While the interior has undergone extensive renovations, the exterior has changed little since being built. This project is to provide automatic door openers, for wheelchair and restricted mobility access.

Westport Dunhams Brook Conservation Project

In partnership with the Westport Land Conservation Trust, the town purchased a conservation restriction on 28 acres of land adjacent to 60 acres held by the Trust. Westport District no. 15 Sanford Road School Restoration

This school was built circa 1840 and served as a school until 1933, when it was leased to the American Legion. the project is proposed in two phases: the firstis to restore the main school room to its original usable condition. This phase will be funded this year (FY09) and phase two, to make the structure comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act, will be presented at a later date.

Westport Head of Westport Town Landing Rehabilitation

This project involves one of the largest and oldest public landings in town. Restoring the stone retaining walls around this Historic Westport River site and preparing the area for safe public use, while preserving one of the town's landmarks. This project will be funded over two years, $16,000 in FY09 and $16,000 in FY10.
