The first phase of renovating Central Hill Park, CPA funds will be used for reconstruction of the Central Hill Playground.

This Leasing Differential Program continuation of the Better Homes Program will benefit 17 formerly homeless and disabled Somerville households. Funding will cover the gap in rent between what HUD can fund (up to FMR) and what the actual cost of the monthly rent is for the units in Somerville.

The Somerville Public Library hired a conservator to restore the wood bas-relief in the Central Library carved by a local artist through the Works Progress Administration program in 1939. This funding allocation is for continuation of the work of installing the bas-relief at a safer location and restoring it to its original condition.

Broadway House (181 Broadway) is a significant community asset, a historic building providing affordable housing for disabled young adults experiencing chronic mental illness. The Broadway House will rehabilitate the building's exterior and window replacement, improving energy efficiency and preserving historic details.

The City of Somerville and Friends of the Healey will procure a firm to renovate the Healey School tot lot, which is the primary outdoor play and learning environment for students in pre-K through Grade 2.

Appropriation to Somerville Affordable Housing Trust

Provide accessibility improvements to the basement level, creating an accessible entrance, eliminating changes in floor elevation, and installing the foundation for an elevator to eventually serve the upper floors of the building. The grant also covers the cost of emergency structural repairs to the roof, and will restore wooden window frames and sashes in the upper floor of the southwest tower.

Construction funding for the expansion of the community garden at Glen Park. The proposed improvements include abandoning Palmer Avenue, installing a new accessible parking and garden utility area, new accessible raised beds, a seating area, and doubling the amount of existing garden area.

Design and renovation of the museum’s collection storage areas to provide for climate control, flood protection, and space optimization, and to upgrade electrical circuitry, lighting, and storage furniture.

CPA funds contribute to the administrative side of the HOME-funded PASS rental assistance program. Grantee is Somerville Homeless Coalition.

The Elizabeth Peabody House will renovate windows throughout the historic building at 277 Broadway from which the organization operates its programs to benefit children and families. The project will replace inappropriate windows on the first floor and will restore and preserve the tall stained glass windows on the second floor. The organization will use funds from private donors to treat the small sections of stained glass which contain religious imagery. The project also includes the restoration of exterior trim around the windows, installing a historically-accurate three-paned window above the main doors, replacing the main doors with wood-paneled doors, and restoring the three clock faces in the tower of the building.

Funding for construction for the renovation of Henry Hansen Park. This project will implement a previous CPA-funded design phase. The project will improve a park which is currently in poor condition, providing greater street access, handicapped accessibility, new seating, green spaces and plantings, a water bottle filler, and a historic memorial plaza space that incorporates educational elements.
