Somerville Stained Glass Window Restoration at 83 Belmont St.

This project will provide resources for the property owners at 83 Belmont St. to replace the original stained glass window in their home which was damaged in a fire. Per the Somerville CPC practice of requiring preservation restrictions on all historic resources projects (if not already in place), a permanent preservation restriction will be recorded on this property.

Somerville Land acquisition study fund

The City of Somerville Land Acquisition Study Fund will make funds available for the City to explore the feasibility of acquiring parcels for acquisition for open space and recreation land. The fund will support appraisals, environmental studies, surveys, and other preliminary studies necessary to determine if a parcel is a good candidate for acquisition and gather the necessary information to prepare a full proposal for submission to the Community Preservation Committee for CPA funding or directly to the Board of Aldermen for funding through non-CPA sources.

Somerville Grace Baptist Church Restoration

The Somerville Hispanic Association for Community Development will rehabilitate the historic Grace Baptist Church and make it ADA accessible. The building is home to the association and the food pantry it runs, as well as other social service organizations.

Somerville 100 Homes Initiative

The goal of the 100 Homes Program is to create affordable units by acquiring existing properties that represent a mix of single and multi-bedroom units, and rent them to households with mix of incomes at affordable rent levels. The initiative is building on the success of the 100 Homes pilot funded in FY15. This phase of the project resulted in eight units in three properties.

Somerville 100 Homes Initiative

This project seeks to secure 100 new units of affordable housing in Somerville through purchasing existing multi-family properties and converting them to affordable housing. To date, this phase of the project has secured 11 units in three properties. Somerville Election Records Preservation

This project will preserve and provide access to the City of Somerville's Election Department records (1884-1967) by digitally scanning them and making them available free of charge online. These records include voter lists used at polls, index of registered votes, general register, voter annual registers by ward and precinct, preliminary and general election results, poll taxes, and list of women voters.

Heading Home Inc. provides rental assistance for chronically homeless and disabled residents with incomes below 30% AMI. Residents may have disabilities, a criminal record or behavioral health instability. Units are leased by Heading Home and sublet to tenants for permanent supportive housing. Assistance pays for gap between HUD payment for monthly rent and actual rent.

Somerville SHC Prevention and Stabilization Services (PASS) Program FY18

The CPA-PASS Expansion (PASS=Prevention-and-Stabilization-Services Housing Program) expands a previously existing HUD HOME-funded Somerville Homeless Coalition program providing time-limited rental assistance up to two years to households at risk of homelessness, or in transition out of emergency shelter system into permanent housing. Case management is provided using other sources. Generally, households have incomes at or below 60% AMI, while unlike HOME funds, CPA funding allows flexibility to serve households up to 100% AMI should such households apply and meet all other eligibility criteria. The program is designed to work with Somerville residents experiencing a housing crisis (for instance burdensome rental increases and/or losses in income) to allow them to remain in the City.

The Somerville Public Library will hire a conservator to restore the wood bas-relief in the Central Library carved by a local artist through the Works Progress Administration program in 1939. The Library will also hired a skilled firm to install the carving in a safer, more prominent location in the Central Library.
