CPA funds will support a portion of the cost of rent to house 9 individuals between the ages of 18-24 for up to one year. Wayside provides transitional housing to homeless young adults. Funding will cover the gap in rent between what HUD can fund (up to FMR) and what the actual cost of the monthly rent is for the units in Somerville.

CPA assistance allows 12 formerly homeless and disabled Somerville households to remain housed. Annual extensions are available for each household to ensure that they remain in housing. Grantee is Somerville Homeless Coalition.

The City of Somerville will hire a firm to conduct a survey of the Somerville Community Path from the Cambridge line to Cedar Street. The survey will be done in preparation for the re-design of the Path, funded by CPA in FY16.

The City of Somerville will procure design services for a renovated Healey Schoolyard.

The City of Somerville will procure design services for the revitalization of Henry Hansen Park. Henry Hansen was a Somerville resident who raised the first American flag at Iwo Jima during World War II.

The City of Somerville will acquire the property at 5 Palmer Avenue to become perpetually preserved open space. CR provided to Groundwork Somerville Inc. in 2019; see project ID# 48147 for the $6000 appropriation for an endowment to hold the CR.

This project seeks to secure 100 new units of affordable housing in Somerville through purchasing existing multi-family properties and converting them to affordable housing. To date, this phase of the project has secured 11 units in three properties. This project replaced the roof on the Elizabeth Peabody House building, a historically significant building that is home to a pre-school, food pantry, and other social services offered by the Elizabeth Peabody House Association.

This project will preserve and provide access to the City of Somerville's Election Department records (1884-1967) by digitally scanning them and making them available free of charge online. These records include voter lists used at polls, index of registered votes, general register, voter annual registers by ward and precinct, preliminary and general election results, poll taxes, and list of women voters.

This project will renovate the soil profile at the existing natural grass auxiliary field space in the Dilboy complex. Irrigation and lighting will also be added to the fields.

Somerville Community Corporation will acquire the properties at 31-35 Richardson. The 31 Richardson parcel will be used for an affordable housing project and the vacant lot at 35 Richardson in order to donate it to the City of Somerville for conversion to perpetually preserved open space.

Heading Home Inc. provides rental assistance for chronically homeless and disabled residents with incomes below 30% AMI. Residents may have disabilities, a criminal record or behavioral health instability. Units are leased by Heading Home and sublet to tenants for permanent supportive housing. Assistance pays for gap between HUD payment for monthly rent and actual rent.

Better Homes provides rental assistance for formerly homeless and disabled residents. Units are leased by Somerville Homeless Coalition and sublet to tenants for permanent supportive housing. Assistance pays for gap between HUD payment for monthly rent and actual rent. While HUD assistance and household income remain fixed, total rental costs per household can rise up to $100 per month in Somerville.

The Elizabeth Peabody House Association completed a full assessment of existing building conditions and created a prioritized rehabilitation plan to guide future capital improvement projects for their historic building.

The Mission Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ will repair and preserve the roof of their historic building.

The Somerville Public Library will hire a conservator to restore the wood bas-relief in the Central Library carved by a local artist through the Works Progress Administration program in 1939. The Library will also hired a skilled firm to install the carving in a safer, more prominent location in the Central Library.
