Appropriation to Somerville's Affordable Housing Trust

The Somerville Homeless Coalition will expand the PASS program, which provides rental assistance for up to two years, housing move-in assistance, supportive case management, and follow-up stabilization services to Somerville residents at risk of falling into homelessness, to approximately seven additional households.

The Friends of the Healey worked with a consultant to research, design, and plan a multi-phased master plan to create a new green neighborhood to include the triangle of the Healey School, the Mystic Learning Center, and Blessing of the Bay Boathouse.

Groundwork Somerville rehabilitated and improved 8 schoolyard garden classrooms at Arthur D. Healey School, Benjamin G. Brown School, Dr. Albert F. Argenziano School, East Somerville Community School, John F. Kennedy Elementary School, Next Wave and Full Circle Alternative Schools, West Somerville Neighborhood School, and Winter Hill Community Innovation School.

The City's Archivist will hire a contractor to process permanent collections and create a record guide to facilitate preservation of the collections.

The Somerville Community Corporation will redevelop the former American Legion Post building into eight affordable units for low- and middle-income households and three market-rate units.

This project will provide resources for the City of Somerville to create a dedicated Local Historic District (LHD) Property Owner Preservation Fund that will provide small grants to owners of local historic district designated properties for the restoration and preservation of their structures. The City plans for the fund to be multi-year and renewable. The fund will be managed by the Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development’s Preservation Staff along with the Historic Preservation Committee.

This project will provide resources for the City of Somerville to rehabilitate and conserve 48 grave markers and the Civil War Monument in the Milk Row Cemetery. The Cemetery is maintained by the Department of Public Works and the Somerville Garden Club.

This project will provide resources for Groundwork Somerville to expand the capacity of the South Street Farm to be used as public space and an outdoor classroom in addition to its current function as an urban farm. This will include constructing a shade structure, wash station, bicycle parking, and tables and benches. Groundwork Somerville will also make improvements such as conducting a phytoremediation project, creating new rain collection surfaces and storage, installation of composting structures, and improving onsite water and drainage management.

The proposed project seeks to preserve, rehabilitate and restore the Library, which is a historic Carnegie library. The West Branch Library is listed on the National and State Register of Historical Places.

This project will provide resources for the City of Somerville Engineering Department, in partnership with the Friends of the Community Path, to repave three sections of the Community Path: from the grassy circle to the Cambridge line, from Thorndike St. to Buena Vista Rd. and from Grove St. parking lot to Cedar St.

This project will provide resources for the City of Somerville Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development, in partnership with the Friends of the Community Path, to conduct a design study to determine effective interventions to improve drainage on the Path, such as rain gardens and bioswales, to explore the feasibility of creating additional community garden plots, develop signage for Path etiquette and way finding, and options for siting an interpretive display of historical railroad artifacts.
