Central Grammar Apartments
Central Grammar Apartments is an 80-unit affordable elderly housing development across the street from Gloucester City Hall. It is a brick school building built in 1889 and the 1920's that was converted to residential use by Gloucester Development Team in 1975. Legal affordability restrictions on the apartment rentals are expiring, and after 35 years the building badly needs renovation.
City Clerks/Archives Initial Storage Project
Replacing wooden shelving in the Clerk's Post Office room with new metal, movable storage units and will continue to sort, file and re-box in proper archival storage boxes the materials that are stored there.
City Hall Restoration - Completion of the Exterior Restoration
Completed in 1871, Gloucester City Hall is the most historically and architecturally significant municipally owned building in Gloucester and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Designed by the acclaimed architectural firm of Gridley J. F. Bryant and Louis Rogers, Gloucester City Hall defines the City's skyline, contributes to the architectural fabric of Gloucester, adds vibrancy to downtown, houses municipal treasurers, serves as an important venue for community events and has been the seat of municipal government departments for almost 140 years.
City Hall Restoration - Completion of the Exterior Restoration
This project will continue the restoration of the exterior of City Hall, specifically repairs and restoration of the Kyrouz auditorium windows on the east, north and west elevations.
City of Gloucester Skate Park
Rehabilitating and restoring a recreational resource by repairing and enhancing the Skatepark located at the O'Maley Middle School. Project consists of repair of transition areas, new signage, new benches, new recycle/trash containers, lighting upgrades and landscape improvements.
City of Gloucester, Community Development Dept. - Little River Stream Habitat and Restoration
The purpose of this project is to secure an easement and construction for the successful implementation of a Stream Habitat and Restoration project located at Little River in West Gloucester adjacent to the Wellspring House on Essex Avenue. The City has worked for over five years with Mass Audubon, the State Division of Ecological Restoration, State Division of Marine Fisheries, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Wellspring House in developing this priority river restoration.
City-owned Cemeteries Restoration- Bay-View
Restoration and preservation of gravestones located at the Bay View Cemetery located at 3 Compass Way. This will include services of a qualified gravestone restoration company who will restore and preserve the sandstone, slate, and marble gravestones.
Dogtown/North Gloucester Woods Preservation Planning
The Grantee shall hire a certified appraiser to determine the fair market value of properties or easements prior to acquisition as required by law for the Dogtown/North Gloucester Woods acquisition support project. Funds may also be used to hire land surveyors to support the appraisal efforts such as to establish the bounds of easements or lay out a portion of a large parcel that will be acquired.
Dogtown/North Gloucester Woods Preservation Planning
The project will (1) inventory the ownership and existing level of protection of 105 parcels north of the publicly-ownd land in Dogtown and the Bason Watershed including land title research to obtain current deeds and property boundary plans, (2) map out existing access points, trails and ways through those parcels and (3) use the deeds, plans and interview of current residents to determine the current legal status of public access to the historic paths and roads through the area.
Electrical Rehabilitation at Beauport, The Sleeper-McCann House
Update the antiquated electrical systems and install new fire protection sensors to better preserve and protect Beauport, the Sleeper-McCann House, one of two National Historic Landmarks in Gloucester.
