Essex County Greenbelt - Norcross Acquisition
Essex County Greenbelt proposes to acquire and preserve a 10.3 property located off of Concord Street and Route 128 exit 13. Greenbelt will own the property and convey a permanent Conservation Restriction to the City of Gloucester. The property directly abuts Greenbelt's 300 acre Tompson Street Reservation and serves as "de facto" access point via an existing trail. A 19th century carriage road, granite retaining walls, second growth hardwood forest, riparian corridor, granite outcroppings and a large wetland area compose the majority of the property.
Essex County Greenbelt - Tompson Street Reservation Gateway
The Essex County Greenbelt will acquire and preserve a 6.75 acre property for $220,000, partially funded with $120,000 from CPA funds. Greenbelt will own the property and convey a permanent Conservation Restriction (CR) to the City of Gloucester or its designee. The property, located on Bray Street in West Gloucester, directly abuts Greenbelt's 300 acre Tompson Street Reservation and serves as a key access point via an existing trial. The acquisition of this parcel will enhance the Tompson Street Reservation by improving access.
Fire-Sprinkler & Deterrence Project
The Gloucester Unitarian Universalist Church will renovate the Church to include the installation of a fire sprinkler and deterrence system.
First Parish Burial Ground and Clarks Cemetery - Historic Cemetery Stone Repair
Repair and restore approximately 14 stones at the First Parish Burial Ground (established in 1644, on National Register of Historic Places) and Clarks Cemetery (established in 1835).
First Parish Burial Ground Gravestone Restoration
The City of Gloucester DPW shall pay for the restoration and preservation of the First Parish Burial Ground up to $9,800. The term of this grant award is from the commencement of the approved project activities through December 31, 2023. This is a memorandum of agreement between the Community Preservation Committee and the Gloucester city-owned Cemeteries Advisory Committee. The vendor chosen to perform the restoration is the Gravestone Preservation.

Gloucester 400 - Story Preservation
As we engage in celebrating Gloucesterâs 400th anniversary, we are positioned to supplement the funds requested in this project through fundraising efforts targeted specially to preserving and celebrating the people of Gloucester and their stories. A planning committee was formed to develop a comprehensive, multi-faceted campaign to secure funds from foundations, corporate entities, and individual donors. We believe that our efforts in preservation will offer a vital link to the historical and cultural roots of Gloucester and its people.
